Coin Claims
You may have noticed, during the evolution of this blog, that I have been experimenting with various items in the side bar. Mainly I was trying to keep it long enough to carry through the first post so it didn't look weird. Some things have already come and gone, like the list of other blue monsters (Grover being my favorite) and others have been added.
Most recently, I have a list of words/phrases that I claim to have coined. Maybe I actually have, maybe I haven't, and I don't really care that much. Some I'm pretty confident about their originality, others, not so much. Diarya (meaning an account of my day's activities that "runs" on pointlessly and no one else really wants in their life), for example, seems pretty original. Hi-technocracy seems less so to me, but maybe it's ok because I'm using it differently than most others I could find.
It's actually very hard to come up with something someone hasn't used before at all--especially if it contains or is based on some other "real" word. So, I have decided that if I use it in a sense different from others, then I can claim it. Feel free to argue with me. My point though, is that just finding the sequence of letters on the web does not prevent me from claiming it, especially since I have been using some of these words for years and these other people probably stole them from me!
Brad Wright and I have an exchange planned on One Punk Under God. I decided to call this exchange a diablogue. The word has been used plenty, but it doesn't seem to have been used in the sense we are using it, so I've decided to put it up. (Brad came up with "Blogalogue" too, which is better and in pretty heavy use--but I can't claim that one!). I've also had this issue with the phrase "diversity capital" which has a couple of in-use meanings, but I mean the characteristics of an individual that would make some group more diverse and therefore makes the person attractive to the group. I've been using that phrase forever too, so, I'm going to claim it!
Blogge = Old blog entries. Someone else has probably thought of that, but I couldn't find it in 3 minutes of trying, so, voila!
Freese Effect = See my post, but I was challenged on this in the comments.
Half-lifeography = A prematurely written biography.
Religio-Honcho = Head of a religious group or organization (I've found a couple of ways to use this lately).
Santite = This is a take off on Seinfield's/Kramer's "Anti-dentite." I'm an anti-santite, so I figure the pro-Santa people are Santites.
Splorange = A certain kind of sponge you use in the kitchen. I have a picture of it's real-life counterpart up there until I find a picture of the sponge I'm talking about. The word was invented so that the world would have something to rhyme with orange (Note: Aren't does not ryhme with orange).
Subdivision heaven = self explanatory.
More will undoubtedly follow....

I've noticed that the sidebar no longer comes up on my browser (an older release of Mozilla). It disappeared sometime in the last week or so, reappeared for a day or two, and now it's gone again. Intentional?
Nope, it's still there. That's weird. The thing I most recently added was a list of post categories. I don't know if that interfered or not. Is anyone else having this problem? It looks ok to me on IE6 and the most recent FireFox.
diarya is my favorite. word.
(i use firefox and the sidebar looks fine.)
I love the anti-santite. I used a similar expression just two days ago. When posting about sermons, and asking if pastors should give them, I wrote a pastor friend that I hoped no one would think that I was anti-sermonite. (Same anti-dentite reference). I like blogge.
